Dating Safety

How to Stay Safe Online and Off

Do you ever think about your dating safety?

Most of us have heard the horror stories about dates that have gone wrong... with some of them, sadly, ending in tragedy. The media reports these cases because they ARE tragic but also because they are very, very rare.

Millions of people date all around the world every day and they have very positive experiences. Statistically, there is very little chance of you ever having an unsafe dating experience and no one wants to think that anything negative will happen to them.

BUT

the best way to increase your chances of staying safe are to follow three really important pieces of advice…

- Be AWARE that you might come across someone who could create problems for you. This is really important because even though innocence and a positive outlook on life are great qualities, they're also the most likely to get you into unsafe situations.

If you bury your head in the sand and pretend everything will always be great for you then you probably won't take the necessary precautions for minimising your risks.

This doesn’t mean that you have to become completely cynical but a little bit of doubt (at least when you really don't know someone) is always healthy.

- PREPARE yourself with knowledge about how to stay safe. If you're still looking for your Mr or Miss Right read about how you can best protect yourself from online predators - yes, guys can also become victims of undesirable people.

And once you've got a date make sure you know the best way to stay safe. There are a few simple dating safety rules that will help keep you protected.

- Use your commonsense. Trust your instinct or 'gut feeling' about someone or a situation. If you've got strange 'vibes' from someone you're probably right...

You could always do a background check on your date to see if you're right about your suspicions. Or even better, just stay away. Never keep yourself in a position where you feel uncomfortable about anything.

And never think that it’s unfair to be judgmental about someone... if there's something about a person that you don't trust then you have every right to feel this way. After all, this is about You and Your dating safety.

But, having said all this, don't let it put you off dating. There really are millions and millions of amazing and genuine people out there on the dating scene and the key is to be able to spot the very few who might create problems for you.

By following our dating safety tips you'll give yourself the best possible chance of only ever having great dating experiences.
