First Date Flowers

What To Give and What To Avoid!

Giving first date flowers can be a great start to a first date…most women love getting flowers and she'll definitely appreciate the thought!

You don't have to give flowers on a first date, most women really don't expect them (except if it's a prom date). But they are a good way of telling your date that you're happy about meeting up with her…without having to express this in words.

There are a few things to consider when you're giving someone flowers for the first time….

-You don't have to give her a huge bouquet to impress her. A small bunch of flowers or even a single flower will make her happy. After all, too big and you might seem desperate! Start small and work your way up to the huge displays for special occasions.

- If you're meeting your date away from her home then remember that one of you will be carrying the flowers during the date. This might be you! So, again, the smaller the better!

- Your date might have hay fever - so try and avoid giving her grasses and stick to brightly coloured flowers, like roses which have a lower pollen count than other flowers. Or why not give her fake flowers, she'll be touched by your thought.

- Some guys like flowers too! If you want to give him flowers, maybe stick to one or two single flowers, like a rose. Or more manly looking flowers - cactuses and tropical flowers like heliconia – to be on the safe side!

- Different flowers have different meanings. So check out our list below to make sure you're giving out the message that you intended to. And knowing the meanings of the flowers will impress your date and give you something to talk about.

Passion – Red carnation, red rose

Beauty – hibiscus, orchid, lily

Love – white rose, thornless rose (love at first sight), lilac (first love), red tulip, orchid, aster

Grace and happiness – pink rose, jasmine

I'm glad I found you – crimson rose

Hope – snowdrop

Let's take a chance – white violet

You're lovely – gardenia

Pleasure – red poppy

Anticipation - forsythia

Mix and match them to give the right message for you. And definitely stay away from the flowers listed below!

Purple hyacinth – I'm Sorry

Yellow hyacinth – jealousy

Geranium – stupidity

Yellow chrysanthemum – unreturned love

Begonia – be careful

Pick them carefully and your first date flowers will give both you and your date a lot of pleasure…because giving is as enjoyable as receiving!
