Most people get nervous about going on a
date with someone they don't know very well.
You know the familiar feelings…
...sweaty palms, dry mouth, heat beating faster,
butterflies in your stomach and needing to go to the bathroom more often than usual!
These symptoms are caused by the hormone adrenaline going in to overdrive because
you're being faced with a new situation.
It's a natural process and you shouldn't let it
spoil your date.
There are lots of ways to combat first date jitters, some of them you can use before the
date and some of them during the date.
- Be prepared for your date.
If you know what you're going to wear, what
you're going to say and where you're going to go you'll feel much more
confident about the date and you'll start to relax.
Affirmations are great because they basically
work on the theory that how you think has an effect on the outcome of a
situation.
So if you keep telling yourself something like 'I have nothing to be
nervous about because this date will go fine' then you're setting yourself up
for exactly that to happen!

- Do something that is relaxing for you…
...taking a long bath, meditating,
listening to music and exercising in some way are all great.
Sport is especially
good because endorphins are released, leaving you with a feeling of well
being.
- There are some really simple calming techniques you can use to lessen your
nerves.
The easiest one is to sit in a quiet room for about 10 minutes, close
your eyes and take slow, deep breaths. Make sure you breathe in through your
nose and out through your mouth.
