How To Write Romantic Love Letters
Romantic love letters are a great way of expressing your feelings for another person.
Sometimes it can be hard to verbally express how you feel without becoming self-
conscious, flustered or tongue-tied.
You've probably experienced this before!
The advantage of writing a letter over just talking to your loved one is that you can
say exactly what you want to say...
...and you have the time and space to make sure you
get your feelings and emotions across in the right way.
And you won't be interrupted!
And the person you're writing to will love it!
Sharing your feelings for someone is a
wonderful gift that they should always treasure.
Romantic love letters work if you're newly in love or if you've been married for years.
And if it's a long, flowing letter or short and to the point.
Throughout history there have been
examples of love letters
written by famous people expressing deep emotions
and loving thoughts. These are really inspirational.
But you don't have to be famous to be able to write romantic love letters...everyone
can do it!
So how do you write romantic love letters that will make your loved one feel special?
Firstly, you need to find a quiet place where you'll have the time and space to really
think about the person you're writing your romantic love letters for.
This is really important because your love
letter should be a very personal message to him or her.
Try playing romantic music in
the background to get your inspiration going!
Next note down the things you want to tell your partner. Close your eyes and really
think about it.
To make this easier, split your ideas down into the following sections:
- What has made you want to write the letter? Is it a special occasion? Are you
making up after an argument? Or has he or she said or done something that
you want to acknowledge in writing?
- Think about the special qualities you like about him or her. Try and be as
specific as possible because the more specific you are, the more personal the
letter will be.
So, for example, instead of saying that you like your partner's
sense of humour, think of an example of when they showed their humorous
side to you.
Or instead of just saying that they have beautiful eyes, describe their eyes in detail and
explain what it is that makes their eyes so special to you.
This will honestly have a much greater effect than just making general statements!
- What are the feelings that you have for your partner? There's probably a
whole range of feelings in you from love and gratitude, to playfulness,
naughtiness and sadness.
- How being with him or her has had a positive effect on your life. Maybe
he/she has brought happiness to your life or helped you out in some way.
- What do you want to do with him or her in the future? This could be anything
from planning a special date to marriage and children! How far you want to go
with this is going to completely depend on you!
So you've done the preparation and made notes.
Now it's time for the letter writing
itself!
The best thing to do is to make a rough draft so that you can write and rewrite it
if you need to.
But don't get too hung up about this…writing in a spontaneous way is good because
you should be trying to write using the right side of your brain (the creative, intuitive
side) rather than the left side, which is more logical and analytical.
Because romantic
love letters should be about your emotions.
And don't get too worried about using flowery language or fancy vocabulary..this is
your love letter, in your words.
So writing like you speak is great.
Don't be
afraid to inject your personality into your love letter – if you're humorous, be funny!
You'll be showing your partner that your letter comes from you and you haven't just
copied it!
If you need a bit of help with romantic vocabulary, take a look at our article on
romantic words and phrases.
Make sure you include your loved one's name in the text itself at least once to make it
very personal to them.
And why not try including
love quotes
or
romantic love poems
to give your letter more sparkle?
Still a little unsure that you can do it? Take a look at the example below to see how
easy it is to write romantic love letters!
Dear Adam
When I woke up this morning, it made me smile to see you lying next to me. You
looked so peaceful as you slept that I just had to reach over and kiss your face gently.
Maybe you felt the touch of my mouth as you were dreaming.
And then it made me think of all the times I've fallen asleep next to you and all the
times you've been here when I've woken up. And how you are always here by my
side – you've comforted me through the difficult times, you've listened to me
patiently when things have been too much for me.
And you've laughed with me. Even your eyes seem to sparkle when we laugh
together.
Adam, you are my constant in an inconstant world. You make me feel safe and loved.
And knowing that you are next to me has made me feel that I can step out into the
world and enjoy experiencing new things.
I can't wait to wake up next to you tomorrow, my angel, and kiss you gently again.
Love and kisses,
Eve xxxx
It really doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Write it from your heart
and you can't go wrong.
Once you're happy with it, read it out loud to yourself to see if you've expressed what
you wanted to say.
Will it make your loved one's heart leap? Imagine it was a letter
from your partner to you…how would it make you react?
To make it extra special, you could write it out by hand or print it out on good quality
paper, possibly scent it with perfume and tie it in a ribbon as a gift.
Or you
could read it out to your partner as part of a romantic date.
And enjoy writing your romantic love letters. The more fun you have, the more moving it'll be for your partner.
